The collectively
known Jardines del Rey Archipelago comprises hundreds of keys of which only a
few are inhabited and exploited. It is an important tourist destination which
lies north of Ciego de Avila province about 500 km away from Havana city. A 17
km long causeway links the mainland to the keys under use which offer excellent
beaches, an easily-reachable coral reef and holiday resorts mainly concentrated
on Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. Tourism development has continuously grown in
the last 15 years and environmental issues are widely respected and closely
taken into consideration since the area is a major natural reserve for marine
birds. Tourist amenities
have been consciously built offering a wide variety of comprehensive options. |
